Video game development is a rapidly growing business and as such, it has attracted huge interests from a plethora of investors keen on making a kill with video games. It is thus imperative for every potential investor in this industry to be clever in their marketing so as to come up with fresh approaches to enable them get their fair share of clients. The first step for such an investor is to come up with the right logo. Presented here are a few tips worth having in mind when you are designing a logo for a video game development studio.

Research the niche

Video game development is a vast niche and there is no way any development studio can go after every component of the industry. It is thus important to carry out an in-depth research to understand the specific sub niches you are interested in as this will inform the use of imagery, fonts, and colors amongst other design aspects for the logo for a video game. Decide whether you will be making games for the sports niche, racing, lifestyle, children etc. This is also the only way to have focus in the business and get the best results out of the resources you have.

Be unique and clever

Now that you have known the niche you are interested in, you must be unique and very clever so as to stand out from the crowd. To achieve this, it will be important to take some time and investigate the kinds of designs that already exist in the industry. Logo design for a video game developer at least has plenty of inspiration to draw from. The reason for doing this is so that you don’t become a copy cat by using designs already available in the market. Doing so will not help your business in any way because you will lack the uniqueness to set it apart from the crowd.

The choice of color is very important

When it comes to graphics design and logo design for a video game, the use of color is not just to make things look beautiful. Color is an important aspect of design and one which must given the due consideration it deserves. Colors elicit various reactions from human beings and so it can be used to convey a particular feeling or emotion of the business to the audiences. Therefore, when designing a logo for a video game development studio, the choice of color should be in tandem with the brand message as well as the feeling the studio wants to convey to the target audience. Here is a short guide to the meanings portrayed by different colors-:

Orange means creative, youthful and friendly

Red means energetic, sexy and bold

Purple means wise, evocative and spiritual

Black means credible and powerful

White means pure, simple and clean

Yellow means inventive, sunny or optimism

Blue means professional, tranquil, medical or trustworthy

Brown mean rural, historical and steady

You can use the guide above to help you choose appropriately on the colors to use on the logo for your game development studio.

Simplicity and flexibility

Video game development industry is such a versatile one and changes happen very fast and quite often. But the logo designed should not be one that will require constant revision every time the industry moves forward. To achieve this, the design should not be based on the current fads or trends in the industry. But rather, it should have the timelessness and flexibility needed to make it relevant in many more years to come. Also importantly, it must not be overly complicated to make it difficult for potential clients to recognize and identify with. This is the key to creating a long lasting logo for a video game development studio that will last the taste of time.

There are many gourmet food joints in town and standing unique amongst them, especially when you are just starting out can be a toll order. Evidently, the quality of your food and overall services will determine if you will have a continuous string of repeat customers or if customers will come to your gourmet restaurant just once and never to be seen back again.

But besides the quality of food and services, you need to attract the customers and make them step their foot on your front door. This can be achieved by giving the right first impression and most importantly through ideal logo design. Here are some of the tips you need to have in mind when building a logo in the gourmet food niche, either when using the services of a professional logo designer or when using a free logo generator.

Consider using cursive or handwritten fonts

Cursive or freestyle fonts tend to promote a sense of comfort – something that every gourmet food joint greatly yearns for. When such fonts are used in the logo design, potential clients will associate the restaurant with comfort and will be more willing to check it out. But while using the cursive or handwritten fonts, it is also a good idea to have in mind the kind of moods you wish to create in the restaurant. For instance, are you looking forward to making the restaurant be a place for fine dining or casual dining? Check out a free logo generator and see if they have such fonts which you could borrow for your design.

Appropriate choice of colors

Color choice cannot be ignored when designing a logo in the gourmet food niche. Color has a way of working with the human emotions and feelings and if appropriately used, it can create just the right feeling needed to attract more customers to your gourmet food restaurant. For fine or most of the gourmet food restaurants, dark blue, red, and black shades are always preferred.

They are not only elegant, but also exude the comfort and confidence which are equally crucial to these kinds of businesses. Alternatively, if you were interested in creating a rather casual look in the restaurant, then you can settle on brighter shades such as pink, orange, yellow and green. These colors will make the logo more impressive, colorful and most importantly catchy to the eyes. One tip to finding the most appropriate color would be to try out a logo marker and get some color suggestions from it.

Relevant Illustrations

You don’t have to write it in the logo for people to know that you are offering gourmet foods or fine dining services. This can be easily achieved through the right use of symbols and illustrations used in the logo. To use the right illustrations when designing a logo in the gourmet food niche, do some research to find out most of the symbols and images used by other gourmet food restaurants. The research is to simply give you an idea on the kind of symbols and illustrations you can use. Since you strive to be unique and make the logo in the gourmet food niche stand out, you must avoid the temptation to use the common images and symbols in your design.

On illustrations still, you can think of the symbols and images that exude the personality of the foods and services offered in the restaurant. For instance, if you are offering Chinese gourmet foods, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to use Chinese chopsticks in the design.

How about going vintage or retro?

Vintage or retro designs will always look fresh and you could use them when designing a logo in the gourmet food niche. Besides the freshness they bring, they will also introduce versatility and timelessness in the design. Therefore, feel free to try out some retro or vintage designs along with rustic styles and fonts to find the ones that will work best for your design and using a free logo maker would be a nice way to experience some of the vintage designs.

There are millions of the people in the logo design world dishing out one bad logo after the other. It seems as if the world has lost its sense of creativity and people are no longer able to get inspiration to think things out of the box to design original and high quality logo ideas. Perhaps we can also blame it on the advent of the internet and the availability of crappy logo generators that anyone who knows nothing about design can use to generate a logo by clicking just a few links.

But I know that you don’t subscribe to the mediocre crop of designers and you are keen on designing logos that will stand out from the crowd and brand the business effectively. To help in your quest for becoming an epic logo designer, here are certain tips and ideas you can use to ensure that you don’t create logos that suck.

Create readable logos

The first annoying thing you will see with most logos today is that they are never readable or at least you have to strain in order to mark out what is written or drawn in them. The primary reason for this is poor choice of fonts. Most of the current designers are eager to try out the latest fonts, some of which have never been tested in various mediums. In as much as you are allowed to take advantage of your creative freedom to try different components in design, your choice of font should be spot on so that your designs are readable. Remember, an effective logo should grab attention and the moment it can’t be read, it losses this important aspect.

The logo must be scalable

Many are the times when you see a beautiful logo on the company website, but when they send to you a printed mail, the logo looks so boring and different because it has been printed in a small size. The problem here is that the logo was not designed to be scalable. An effective logo must be scalable enough so that it doesn’t lose its properties irrespective of the display size. Ideally, the logo should retain all its design components when printed in small marketing materials such as pens or business cards or when displayed on large prints such as posters or billboards.

Get the colors right

Color choice is another area where most logo designers get it all wrong. Apart from making the logo visually appealing, the choice of color should also be aimed at evoking the right emotional responses from the target audience. Colors should thus be used effectively to communicate ideas as well as convey trust to the target audience. This calls for having a good understanding of the color psychology in design so that you know when to use which colors during the logo design process. Additionally, a beautiful logo is not the one with all the colors of the rainbow. Remember, the world is edging towards minimalism in design and it is not the number of colors used, but rather the effectiveness of the colors in the design.

Be careful about adopting trends

It may be tempting to base your design ideas on a certain fad in the industry that almost everyone has adapted to. But this is very dangerous since trends come and go. If you design the logo to adapt to a certain trend, the logo will cease to have its appeal once the trend is over. A great logo is one with the ability to withstand the test of time and remain effective for many more years to come. You should therefore aim at coming up with timeless designs that don’t follow fads or trends. This is why corporate giants like coca cola, Apple, Google, Nike, McDonalds and many have managed to create strong brands because their logos are timeless and not based on any given trend.

Use Negative Space

The use of negative space in design is a nice trick for creating beautiful and timeless logos laden with hidden meaning or symbols. The industry standard for logos with negative space is the FedEx logo. It conveys a powerful hidden message about the company’s desire to move forward and also make fast and quick deliveries.

Be yourself

Another despicable thing being witnessed in the logo design industry is plagiarism of logo ideas. Designers are in a hurry to make a quick buck and so the best they can do is to browse logos and copy the designs at the expense of utilizing their skills to come up with original designs. The only way to become a proficient logo designer is to always strive to create original designs. There are so many places and so many things which can be used for inspirations and it is just sad that designers refuse to think and resort to copying.

With the increase in number of powerful graphics tools, online logo generators and color schemes, even those who are artistically challenged now have the power to create head turning logos in a matter of seconds. For social media marketers, this ability has made it possible for them to build and grow brands quickly, through interacting with the millions of people who frequent the social media sites on a daily basis. As you already know, Instagram is one of the biggest and the hottest social media platforms at the moment and virtually every marketer is in a race to get a piece from the humongous traffic.

For your brand to stand out amongst the millions in the site, it is imperative to provide real value to the followers and give them a reason to believe that you have a solution to their needs. Additionally, your branding must be spot on and this calls for the creation of a well suited logo to distinguish your brand from the rest. It should be noted, however, that when creating a logo for the social media such as Instagram, there are a few subtle aspects you need to have in mind to make the logo more effective. Presented here are cool tips one can use to create logos designed to be used in the social media, and especially in Instagram.

Consider the aspect ratio

Most of the marketing gurus will bring to your attention that your logos ought to be proportionate, in the sense that they should not be too wide or too short. If the logo is meant to be used in the social media such as Instagram, then there is another reason why the height and the width of the logo need to be in harmony.

Most of the social media websites, including Instagram, will display your logo or icons in a square or circular shape as is usually seen in profile displays in Facebook and Instagram respectively. In as much as your logo doesn’t have to be a perfect square or circle, it should have an aspect ratio that will enable it to display just perfectly well when should placed for display in the social media profiles.

Detach text from graphics

Since it is not possible to foresee all the applications of your logos in the future, it is highly encouraged you be versatile with the design, especially if you ever think that the logo will be used in the social media websites such as Instagram. You may be faced with a situation where you will be compelled to rearrange or use certain section of your logo if it doesn’t fit properly in certain shapes or sizes. If, perhaps, you needed to have very small icons, then it may be possible to include the entire logo. Due to this, most companies have adopted the use graphical elements or a single letter for their logos in the social media. It implies that if your graphics and texts are intertwined in the logo, then it may not be possible for you to separate the elements and use the logo in Instagram without confusing your followers. Therefore, consider detaching text from graphics when you are designing a logo for use in Instagram or any other social media platform.

Remember to keep it simple

Gone are the days when the quality of a logo would be determined by the total number of graphical elements and colors it had. Presently, minimalism and simplicity rules in the world of logo design. When designing your logo for use in Instagram or any other social media platform for that matter, avoid using too many words, thin lines, and very detailed graphical elements in the design. If the logo becomes too detailed, it will not just appear confusing to many people, but also resizing it may be difficult and this may work against your brand. Again, avoid using all the colors of the rainbow in the logo hoping that you will make it more beautiful and more conspicuous. This will create unnecessary noise and may not deliver you very good results in the social media, where there is already a lot of distractions from the followers.

Be consistent

In as much as you are creating the logo to be used in Instagram, it should be consistent with the logo being used in other social media sites. Through consistency, people will see the same image in the different platforms and this will work strongly for your social media branding needs. If you are keen, you will notice that most of the successful brands have a simplified variation of their designs being used across all their social media outlets. Without consistency, you will miss an opportunity to connect with your audiences throughout the social channels and in the process miss an incredible opportunity to achieve effective social media branding.

When you communicate via email, your email signature is usually the final point of communication your reader has and it presents an avenue for more subtle, yet effective branding and marketing. By including your logo in the signature, you will be increasing the reach and exposure of your brand, thus adding more to your marketing efforts.

A good logo as your signature should be simple, professional and informative. You can effortlessly implement this on your signature without making it look dull and boring. Presented below are some of the ways to use to make your email signature cool with a logo.

Don’t include too much information

One of the most common mistakes people make with their email signature is to thing that they are mini autobiography. They end up jamming them with lots of unnecessary information and links which ultimately make them look dull and boring. When you create your signature with a logo, there is no need to include too much information.

The essence of the logo is to market your brand, and if people can take note of it, they will definitely head over to your website where they will find the rest of the information you are tempted to include in the sign. Therefore, try and keep the signature clean and to the point by not cramming it with the logo in addition with lots of other information.

Consider the color of your logo

As noted earlier, the signature will be the last thing the reader will see after reading the email. When you use a logo as the signature, it is important to consider the dominant color of your design. There are instances when the color may appear a little dull when used in the signature and in such cases, it is advisable that you tweak the colors and probably use some bright pallets to attract the reader’s attention to the logo. Obviously, when the color of the logo doesn’t contrast that of the email, then decipherability will be hampered and the logo will not be as effective as it would have been.

Use just the right size

For proper organization and better display of the logo on the signature, the size ought to be just the right one. A large logo size will not just be boring and annoying to the reader, but it may also affect the rendition of your email and make the structure and the organization disjointed. Additionally, if the signature takes more space than the actual content of the email, you may appear as imposing your brand to the recipients and it may make them change your perception about you.

Use smaller font pallets

Too many fonts are not a disaster for your logo alone, but also for your signature. Ideally, it is advisable not to use a lot of fonts in your logo and if this is the case, you will have to do some tweaking when using the logo in your email signature. This is a nice way to keep the logo simple and clear as the name and thus making it more effective in your branding efforts.

Let the logo be in the right format for small screens as well

It goes without saying that the logo should be able to render properly in computer screens before you use in the signature. Some businesses not fond of using communications may just pick any logo format and use it as the signature. You need to ensure that the logo is in a format which can be rendered across multiple devices, and especially on small screens, without its quality being affected. This is very important given that the number of people accessing emails via mobile device keeps on increasing and if the image in the signature can’ be displayed well on mobile devices, it may be a blow to your marketing and branding efforts.

Full width email signs

For most people using emails in their signatures, they follow the conventional format of position the signature at the bottom left section at the end of the email. Whereas this is the position which has been in use since time immemorial, sometimes a little creativity is needed to stand out from the crowd. For instance, you can modify the logo size to have an extended width to make it larger and more conspicuous.

In this way, it will draw in a lot of attention from the reader, besides making the email appear aesthetically appealing. However, you should consider this approach only if the logo can adopt a landscape layout without compromising its quality and overall visual appeal.

For better results with the logo as the email signature, there are other common mistakes that people fall for when designing their email signatures. For instance, there is no need for you to put all your phone numbers and email addresses on the signature. Watch out for such mistakes and you will never get it wrong with your email signatures.

Your logo is one of the most important visual representations your business will ever have. With a great logo, your business will be easily recognizable and will be easier for potential and current clients to pick you out from the competition. This is why there is always a great emphasis on how to create a logo for business, and it is something that should never be taken with any ounce of casualness. There are various ways of creating your business logo and presented below are some of the options available at your disposal.

Create the logo yourself

For you to create a worthwhile logo for your business, some design skills and knowledge will be required. This is usually the most preferred path for those who are design conscious and who want to have total control over all the aspects of the creation process. This option gives you the ability to create the logo just as you had imagined it and it will not cost you a thing, given that you will not be paying anyone to do it on your behalf.

However, as much as creating the business logo on your own may sound appealing; it comes with certain disadvantages which you’d better be ready to contend with in advance. To begin with, you must possess designs skills and knowledge for you to create the logo without any professional help. Not everyone is a designer and if you have never tried it before, then this wouldn’t be the right choice for you.

In addition to having design skills and knowledge, it will be imperative to know how to use various graphics programs for logo creation. Some of the programs are pretty expensive and it wouldn’t make any financial sense to purchase them just to make one logo and this is why you may consider our second option of creating a logo for your business.

Order the logo for a graphics designer

The second option, and which is preferred by many entrepreneurs, is to entrust their logo creation to the professional graphics designers. With this option, you are guaranteed of having a high quality output that will represent your business in the most professional manner, visually. Besides, there are so many places where you can get such qualified professional logo designers at affordable rates. Some of the benefits you get by traveling down this route when creating a logo for your business include-:

Access to a pool of designers and you are able to choose from the very best

You are guaranteed of getting a unique and quality business logo

Takes less time compared to creating the logo on your own

Sometimes the cost of designing the business logo can be relatively cheap.

But despite the advantages, there are certain things you may not like about ordering your logo from a graphics designer. For instance, finding a very good designer may be a challenge, given the nature of the freelance marketplaces and the huge number of designers available. You may find one or two very good designers, but they will be very expensive and this can be a little bit of a setback, especially if you are just starting out and you are pressed for finances. Finally, you won’t have a lot of control over the creation process and there are no guarantees that the designer will translate all your ideas into a perfect design.

Order it from a studio

Ordering the creation of your business logo from a design studio is almost similar to ordering from a freelance graphics designer, but it comes with advantages not available when you consider working with the freelancers. For instance, you will have a chance to work with very talented designers on your logo project and there is also a wide range of design studios for you to choose from. Communication with the designers will also be easy and this will lead to great finish at the end. However, if you decide to order form the studio, be prepared to spend a huge amount for the service fee and it is also a time consuming affair since you will have to consult with the studio designers at every stage of the design.

Use an online logo generator

With the advent of the internet and advancement in technology, there is a plethora of free online design tools people can use to make logos for their businesses. Not the very best option to say the least, but the online logo generators have the benefits of being free and easy to use and also you don’t need to have any design skills to create a logo for your business. Additionally, the results are almost instant and you have a wide variety of options to choose from. You will however have to contend with the fact that you don’t have actual control over the design and your customization options are also very limited.

A well crafted YouTube logo for your channel will instantly make you stand out from the competition and let the masses know what your channel is all about. Most of the top performing channels in YouTube didn’t acquire the staggering number of followers not only because of quality videos, but their branding within YouTube also played a crucial role, and this boils down to creating a relevant and eye catching YouTube logo.

Unknown to many, you don’t have to be a design geek to create a stunning logo which will drive your YouTube channel to success. All you have to do is follow certain conventions and also use trips and tricks which have been proven time and again to deliver quality logos. Presented below are a few factors worth taking into account if you want to create a magnificent YouTube logo for your channel-:

Begin by knowing what your message is

Your YouTube logo will be the brand identity for your channel for people who will be browsing YT videos. It should be designed in such a manner that people will be able to tell easily what your channel is all about. This makes it important to determine exactly the type of message you would like to share with your followers and viewers in the channel. Out of the message, it will be easy for you to decide on the other aspects of the logo such as the symbols, fonts, and colors amongst other design features.

Browse other YouTube channels

Once you have known what your congruent marketing message is, the next step is to browse other YouTube channels for more inspirations. By browsing the channels, it doesn’t imply that you lack in originality or you want to copy other people’s logo, but it is designed to give you an idea of what the top guys are doing right as far as YouTube logo design is concerned. Of great concern to you should be the leading channels in your niche, which also happens to be your greatest competitors. Have a look at their logos and pick a few cues you could use to make your logo even better than theirs.

Make a clean and functional logo

At this point, you already have an idea of the kind of message you would like to pass across to your channel visitors and you have also browsed the top channels in your niche and you now know what kind of logos are pulling the crowds in your niche. The next step is now the actual design of the logo. You have the option of doing the design on your own, which will give you lots of flexibility to translate your idea into the design.

But if you don’t have the design skills, you can outsource the creation to graphics designer, whom you will share with your inspiration so that they can transfer it to the design. Whichever option chosen, the logo must remain clean and functional since this is one of the characteristics of top performing logos in the world.

Depending on your research and the suitability of your channel, you can create the following logo types for your YouTube channel-:

Symbol or Icon logos – with this kind of a logo, a symbol or an icon is used in the design of the logo. It doesn’t include any letter like the channel name. The beauty of such logos is that they are very simple, yet powerful and remains memorable in the minds of potential clients for a very long time. Think about Apple logo for instance.

Word or Letter Mark Logos – with these logo types, letters or words are used as the primary essence of the logo. Google logo is an example of a word or letter mark logo.

Combination mark logos – with these, you use a combination of words, letters and symbols in creating your YouTube logo.

Get the colors right

The colors used in your YT channel logo are very important since colors have a way of passing different message or emotions to those who view the logo. Choose colors appropriately depending on the feelings or the emotional responses you intend to invoke from your channel visitors.

Choose the right logo sizes

YouTube recommends that your channel logo should render at 98 x 98px and you are recommended to upload sizes of about 800px x 800px. On the size still, remember that you are likely to use the logo in other social sharing sites, hence it should be versatile size that will cut across all your potential marketing platforms.

Make the logo memorable

Finally, a successful logo is one which is easily memorable. Your views should be in a position to recognize the logo easily even if they see it somewhere out of YouTube. In this manner, it becomes easier for them to remember your channel and this is very powerful for branding and marketing the channel.

Build a Beautiful Coffee Shop Logo in 5 Minutes!

Running a coffee shop itself is hard work, let alone creating the perfect coffee logo.

Building a coffee shop logo requires a significant amount of effort, planning & strategy.

Think of a well known coffee shop, that’s green (not going to give you any clues)!

I’m sure you could quickly visualize the company, the brand and everything in between.

The logo you create or choose will always be the visual representation of the business to the outside world.

It’s the underlying basis of your brand identity.

It is what the potential clients, as well existing customers will use to relate to the business.

Carrying the cup with your logo is your walking spokesperson!

For a coffee shop therefore, it will pay off if you’re able to come up with an appropriate logo for marketing & branding the business.

Just like in other industries, creating a logo in this kind of industry require some creativity.

Here are few tips and tricks to help you get the best results and these will apply even if you are using a free logo maker or a professionally designed custom logo.

Research logo ideas

There are hundreds of businesses in the coffee industry and so because of that, there are also hundreds if not thousands of logos already created that look similar.

The last thing you need in growing your coffee shop business is to adopt designs that already exist in the market.

The way to avoid this would be to take time and research the industry so that you understand the type of logos people are using.

This is so that you can avoid the generic designs and come up with something completely different and which will stand out in the crowd and make you attract the right audience in the market.

Your logo needs to be unique and ask friends and family for ideas.

Creating a memorable coffee shop logo will pay off in the long run.

Use appropriate and related symbols

A good coffee shop logo should convey a strong visual representation of the coffee business.

The people who see it should not even try to figure out what the business is all about.

The Coffee biz is a unique business and you’ll find greater success with your branding if you can make it even more recognizable to the people.

The best way to achieve this is to use the right imagery and related symbols in the logo design.

For instance, Using images of roasted coffee beans, or a nice cup with steam or even a coffee roasting machines would instantly tell your users what you have.

If you lack ideas on the best symbols to use, try using a free logo maker and see the types of symbols you could possibly get from there.

This could be a great way to create a coffee shop logo.

The Color Choice

When it comes to colors, the coffee business is very specific.

They use certain shades of colors in your logo which are fundamental to the recognition and identification of the industry.

In most of the cases, the predominant color in a coffee logo is darker, heavier colors, such as green and black and its shades.

It would be ridiculous to try and come up with totally different colors for the logo design in the name of being unique.

This is not to condemn any attempts to be unique, but just to ensure that you use colors appropriately when designing a logo for a coffee roasting business.

Think of it this way, if you used Pink and Blue, could you attribute that to coffee? To most people that is a No!

If you decide to use grey, contrast it with other bright colors to make the design standout from the otherwise gloomy designs the industry is accustomed to.

A great tip would be to use a logo generator and draw some inspiration on how it uses the colors to put up the logo.

Freshness

Coffee, the drink, is known for its unique freshness and the ability to stimulate the whole body.

This same concept should be replicated when designing the logo.

The design should look fresh and inviting so that the potential clients are attracted immediately to try out the products of the coffee shop.

The other way to ensure freshness in design is never to conform to the current trends which when over, the design will look boring and become obsolete.

Let it be modern, yet timeless

Your aim is to create a logo for your coffee business that will not just be relevant today, but stay relevant for many more years to come.

This is where modernity and timelessness comes in when designing such a coffee shop logo.

It should retain it aesthetics and be able to pass across the core marketing message for several years after the design.

There is more that goes into logo design than “playing” with symbols and colors. Logos are the brand identities of businesses hence their design should be considered more deeply for the greater success of the business. As a designer, it is imperative that you have a good understanding of your client’s business so that you can have the versatility to capture and portray their vision in the logo.

This might seem like an arduous task in the beginning, but with practice and experience, you will be able to understand your client’s businesses well so that you come up with great designs to demonstrate their vision to their clients. Presented here are some of the pertinent questions you need to ask yourself as a designer to help you bring out the client’s vision in your design.

What is the most suitable logo type to use?

There are different types of logos in use today and each will be suitable for various kinds of businesses. A good understanding of your client’s business vision will help you choose on the right type of logo to design and which will help the business in portraying their to present as well as potential clients. The following are some of the common logo types you will find yourself working with most of the times-:

Woodmarks logos – these are free standing logos featuring multi-letter abbreviations like the logo for CNN, IBM, Google, eBay etc.

Letterform Logos – these logos use a single letter as in the case of Honda, Uber, MacDonald’s and Unilever.

Pictorial Logos – pictoral logos are illustrated using common symbols such as the logos for Twitter, Starbucks, and Playboy amongst others.

Abstract Logos – these logos don’t represent anything which would otherwise be recognizable. A good example of an abstract logo is Nike’s swoosh.

The choice of the specific logo type to use in designing the client’s logo will depend on factors such as the length of the company name as well as if there is a common symbol that the company would like to be associated with. In some cases, you may blend the two or more logo types to come up with a hybrid logo depicting multiple logo types.

What are the key points about the business that the logo should present?

In order to fully comprehend the vision of your client and bring it out in the logo design, it is imperative that you get to know the key selling points that the business have. These should be those specific things setting the business apart from the competition and which they will use to attract more customers.

The knowledge about the key points about the business will then form your decision on some of the logo design elements so that you make designs which will cover the key selling points. This knowledge will ultimately dictate the choice of colors, the symbols, the shapes, the type as well as the orientation of the entire design.

What are the goals of the business?

Equally important as knowing the strength of the business is the goals of the business. By understanding the goals of the business, you will be in a better position as a designer to know what exactly the business aims to achieve and also the kind of branding approach they are likely to consider.

This will give you the ability to design a logo to communicate the goals of the business to the clients and help in convincing the clients that the company has the solutions they want. Without knowing the goals of the business, the design will be blind and without any objectives hence totally useless to the business.

Where is the client’s industry headed?

By knowing the general direction of your client’s industry, you will make better decisions on the kind of approach to adopt when signing the logo. The reason for knowing about the trend is that you design a logo that will be dynamic enough to retain its relevance even if the industry has moved on a decade from the time you did the design. But while designing the logo, be careful not to base the design on the logo design trends. This might render the logo redundant once the trend has passed.

What is the client’s range of products or services?

Knowing the range of the products or services offered by the client will also help you understand their vision and design a more appropriate logo. For instance, if they are dealing with one product line, you will have a different logo compared to when they are dealing with different product lines or they have operations in multiple industries. You can simply ask them about their product lines and possibly if they intend to diversify in the future so that you make the logo to have such dynamism in line with the client’s vision.
